ACH Error Code R41 - What is this?

Published

ACH code R41 refers to a return entry for an Automated Clearing House (ACH) transaction. Specifically, it indicates that a bank draft, also known as a cashier’s check, has been presented for payment, but the payment has been refused or “non-accepted” by the receiving bank.

There are a few reasons why a bank might refuse to accept a bank draft, such as insufficient funds, suspected fraud or forgery, or account closure. When a bank draft is returned with the R41 code, the payment has not been completed, and the funds have not been transferred to the intended recipient.

If you have received an ACH return entry with the R41 code, you should contact the bank or financial institution that issued the bank draft to inquire about the reason for the non-acceptance and to make payment arrangements.
